Introduction: Build a Website with No Code
If you want to learn how to build a professional-looking WordPress website in 20 minutes or less, then this is going to be the video for you. I'm basically going to show you guys how to make a killer website in just a few steps. It's actually so simple and so affordable. I truly believe that anyone in the world can make an awesome website.
You also might be thinking, hey, I don't know how to code, how am I possibly going to make a website? Well, with WordPress you don't need to know how to code at all. Everything is done through drag and drop, so it really is that simple. I guarantee you that after watching this video, you'll be able to go out there and make your own website super easily.
So with that being said, let's get started with the video.
Choosing and Purchasing Web Hosting
So the first thing we are going to need to do is find a website host. And in today's video, I'm going to show you guys how to use Hostinger, which is by far one of my favorite web hosting platforms. Initial WordPress Setup Process
Okay, so now that I've gotten the plan, it's going to take me to my dashboard page, and it's going to look something like this. The first thing I recommend doing is claim your free domain. So I'm going to click on this right here. Let's say I want to call it Charlie Chang New Business and let's choose the ending. So let's do .com and let's see if that's available. Great, that's available. So I'm going to click claim domain.
After that, I'm going to come here to hosting and I'm going to click setup Premium Shared Hosting right here. Here I'm going to follow the guided setup. It's very easy. I'll select build a website. I'm going to select WordPress since that's the platform we're going to be using to build our website. And it's going to have me actually create a WordPress account. So after I've done that, I'm going to click continue.
It's going to have me select a template. Now for now, I'm just going to click skip, and I'll actually show you guys how to add a template later on. You're going to name your website, so I'm going to choose the domain. Yes, we're going to go with charliechangnews.com, or you can select an existing domain if you want, but I'll select the one that we just created. And after that, I'll click finish setup. Once that is all done, we'll have the option to actually start editing our website. And this is the fun part, so I'll click edit website right here.
Configuring WordPress Plugins
So now you guys can see that I'm within the dashboard of my WordPress panel. And the very first thing that I actually recommend you guys to do is come here to plugins. Here you're going to be able to see all the current plugins that are actually activated and installed. So if there are any that you don't want, you can actually deactivate or delete those. And yeah, for all you guys watching this, I actually recommend installing the Yoast SEO plugin.
So to do that, I'm going to come here to add new, and I'll search Yoast SEO. This is one of the best plugins. It's completely free, and it's going to help your SEO, search engine optimization, a lot. So I'll click install now. It's going to install that right here, and once that's done, I'm going to go back here to installed plugins and now you can see Yoast SEO is right here and I'll click activate. Now after doing this, you guys can actually find any other plugins that might be helpful.
Setting Up SEO-Friendly Permalinks
But after that, I recommend coming here to settings and then I'm going to come here to Permalinks. This is a step that a lot of people skip but it's very, very crucial you do this. Under common settings, what I recommend checking is post name. This means that whenever you make a new page, it's going to be your domain.com/whatever-that-post-name-is. After I do that, I'll click save changes.
Choosing and Activating a Theme
And now I'm actually going to go ahead and change the appearance of my website. So this is the fun part. So I'll come here to Appearance and then click on Themes. So this is right now the default theme that's installed. What I'm going to do here is actually click Add New Theme. You guys can see that there are so many different themes that you can add. Most of them are free. You can see that there are 5,000+ popular themes. You click latest, it's going to have over 10,000 themes. You guys can actually add themes to your favorites list if you want.
Yeah, I'm going to come here to popular and you guys can just scroll through here, see what works for your website. Since I know you guys watching this, you'll probably be making a bunch of different types of websites, right? So some of you might be making a blog, some of you guys might be making a website for your business, some of you guys might be doing a personal brand website or a landing page. Yeah, what I recommend doing is just, you know, scroll through these, see which one looks the best for your particular website and then choose that. So after going through these, this one actually caught my eye so I'll click on this and I'll click install right here. After that, I'll click on activate.
Introduction to Page Builders
So now that we've activated this theme, we can actually begin building our website. Now you guys will see that there are multiple ways that you can actually customize your themes. You can actually use the built-in customizer that comes with the theme or you can use a free drag-and-drop builder like Elementor. That's a very, very popular one. So if I come here to Customize, it's going to take me to the default website builder that comes with this particular theme.
You can see that the one for this theme is actually very powerful; it's all drag and drop. But if you guys actually want to use Elementor, which is a very popular one, I'll come here to plugins, click add new, and then search up Elementor. If you want to use this, you'll click install now, and after that, I'll click activate. Now for the homepage, I'm actually just going to use the main builder that comes with this theme, and then to actually show you guys Elementor later on in this video, I'll create another page and show you how to build a page using that. So right now I'll come here to appearance, I'll go to themes, and click customize right here.
Customizing the Homepage
So you guys can see it's very, very, very easy to customize your website. Let's say I want to change the background right here. I'll actually click on this. I'll be able to select my layout, so I can go like that or like this. Let's say we want to keep it like this. I'm going to do is come here to Style, and then I'm going to be able to select the image that I want to use for this. To change it, I'll click on this and I'll be able to actually upload files that I have already downloaded. So I'm going to upload these images right here and that's going to save them into my media library.
So under my media library, I'll click on this image and I'll click select. It may require you to crop the image, but I'll just click crop image right here and that's going to add this particular image as that main header background. If you want to change the text, you guys can of course come here. You can select the heading type to change the size. You guys can change the text on these buttons very easily. You can add the link that it actually goes to. You can change the color as well, as well as the spacing. And yeah, there's so many different things to do. I just recommend going through this, it's very, very intuitive, you'll figure it out very easily. And I'm just not going to go through all these things since this video will probably be like two or three hours long.
Of course, if you want to change your logo, you can come up here. You'll select this, it's going to have you upload an image. Let's say I want to make this my logo. If you want to change these things down here, of course, you can change all the different text, change the heading type, you can change the icon pictures if you want. Yeah, what I recommend you guys do is go through this, change all the text so that it matches your website, and don't get too caught in all the details. I think a lot of people make the mistake of spending so much time making their website perfect, but I'll tell you guys that actually doesn't matter that much. What matters the most is, you know, just getting that website out and then focusing on marketing. This is what's actually going to make people come to your website.
If there are any sections you don't want on your website, you can actually come here, click on this right here, and then click delete block. That's going to remove that entire section. Yeah, all the images are customizable, all the text is customizable, all the icons are customizable. And if you guys even want to add new blocks, you can do that as well. But overall this theme looks really great. A lot of themes on WordPress look amazing, so that's really why it's so easy to make a professional-looking website using WordPress.
Now let's say that I'm happy with how the homepage is looking, I'll click publish right here, and that's going to automatically save. So after that, I'll click on the X, and I'll show you guys how to actually change your menus. I'll click on menus right here, and I'm actually going to create my first menu. So let's name it Main Menu. I'll click header primary menu right here, and then click create menu right here.
So here I'm going to add in different pages to this actual menu. Let's add the front page, let's add the blog, and let's add a sample page which has already been created. Click on this and that's going to populate right here. You guys can actually change the order like this. And yeah, after that I'll click save menu. If I go to my website now you'll actually see that menu is right here in the header.
Building a Page with Elementor
So after that, I'm going to show you guys how to make a new page. So I'll come here to Pages, and then click Add New right here. And it's going to bring you to the default block editor in WordPress. I don't recommend using this. It's a little bit harder, it's not as intuitive, and it's not really like that drag and drop that we saw with the previous builder. So with this, I'm going to click Edit with Elementor and it's going to open up the Elementor page building platform. Here you can see it's pretty similar to the previous page editor that we used, except that this page is blank. So the first thing you want to do is probably create a heading, so I'll click heading right here and I'll drag and drop it right here. You can change the text here by, you know, typing something new. We can change the color as well by going here to style and clicking this. We can also add images if you want. So if you want to, you know, insert an image, I'll drag and drop this right here. I can click on this to choose the particular image. Let's say we want to use this one, I'll click insert media right here, and that's going to insert that.
Yeah, the whole thing with Elementor is that you're basically, you know, dragging widgets onto the page. You guys can choose the structure, so whether or not you want full screen, two side-by-side columns, or any of these other ones that you see right here. If I want two side by- side things, I can do it like that and click plus right here. We can for example, add some text right here, change up the text by typing stuff right here. I'll click on this if want to add something else. Let's say we want to add an image, drag that here. And yeah, that's basically how you create a page using Elementor. Now of course with a blank page like this, it is going to be a little bit harder, but you can see how it's pretty similar to the previous page builder we used because we're able to just drag and drop different elements onto our page. Before exiting out, make sure to always click update, and that's going to save any changes you've made.
Final Advice & Builder Recommendations
Now I'm going to actually exit out of Elementor. And yeah, you guys will probably want to add new pages, maybe like an About Me section or anything else that works with your particular website. Let's say I want to to actually edit this blog page. I can click edit in Cali, it's going to take me to the Cali Page Builder and I'll be able to build my blog like this. So yeah, it really depends on, you know, which builder or theme you're using for your own website, but I just recommend using the built-in builder for your theme or just get Elementor. That's probably the most popular builder that's out there.
After doing all this stuff, you'll have a very good and professional-looking website, and it should really only take you a few hours or less.
